Ad Fraud Specialist

Ad Fraud Specialists review and analyze pay-per-click advertising account activity to identify suspect behavior. They are critical thinkers whose curiosity leads them to both identify why events occur and understand how those events play into the larger story of advertising fraud.  Ad Fraud Specialists evaluate and respond to escalations from customers whose advertising accounts have been blocked, or who have reported unauthorized activity on their account. They analyze and evaluate large-scale data sets to identify and mitigate patterns of fraudulent activity. Ad Fraud Specialists report to a Fraud Prevention Assistant Manager/Manager and have no supervisory responsibility. 

The Fraud team provides client coverage 365 days a year and covers extended hours.  Ability and willingness to work weekends/holidays/shifts is imperative.

Essential Functions

  1. Review queued transactions to independently determine if the behavior is indicative of fraudulent activity 
  2. Conduct investigations on transactions by gathering and analyzing evidence and interpreting data to make informed decisions on difficult transactions 
  3. Identify patterns in fraudulent or abusive transactions, work to recognize new patterns as they emerge and share key pattern-recognition information with colleagues 
  4. Identify opportunities for improvement in client tools and risk strategy, internal team processes, fraud evaluation criteria and client-team collaboration 
  5. Demonstrate understanding of SEM/SEO/affiliate marketing, including legitimate revenue-driving practices and the motivations of bad actors on these platforms 
  6. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing project-specific tools, open source research methods, and data management techniques 
  7. Maintain professional communication with internal coworkers and partner teams
  8. Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge & Skills

  1. Ability to think outside the box and demonstrate natural inquisitiveness
  2. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to proactively identify and embrace new solutions
  3. Strong communication skills across various platforms (verbal, written/email, instant messaging) with both native and non-native English speakers
  4. Ability to pay strict attention to detail, notice nuanced changes and recognize patterns of information and behavior
  5. Demonstrated leadership, communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional team environment across multiple locations
  6. Ability to think critically and exercise good judgment
  7. Ability to identify relevant information from open-source resources and make connections between data points
  8. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Outlook and Word, with proficiency in SQL a plus
  9. Willingness and flexibility to work all shifts including weekends, holidays, and overtime

Education & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work-related experience
  2. Background in marketing, advertising, or online fraud with an emphasis on analytics preferred
